Day 14

They have finally arrived at Gately on the Nile, which is an air-conditioned hotel where they can shower and get refreshed. They met a guy today who was having a very large church service outside and many people came and they enjoyed being with that group today. They have been shopping in Jinga and by and large relaxing. Please pray for Julia as she is now experiencing some stomach problems and also for Emily as she has ulcers in her mouth and throat from what she picked up with the fever, Katie and Susan have done a good job taking care of them. Today at church Bruce Baker suggested that I let all of you know when they are returning in case you wanted to be at the airport to greet them home. They get in on Tuesday on Continental Flight #360 at 5:50 PM. Thanks, Bruce! Larry C. Nail

Day 12 An offer for Julia

The team is on the island of Kachanga today and thank the Lord everyone is doing well and Emily has no fever!! Thank you for all your prayers for my Emily! There was a pastor's conference on the island with 10 pastors participating and they asked Greg, Tommy and Alyssa to share. The men requested that our church back in America send 10 Bibles per church (total of 100) to help them in their various churches. They have some great needs. Someone wanted to take Julia for 50 cows!! Wow...that is a lot of hamburger meat but the team declined on this particular opportunity. Tomorrow they will arrive in Jinga and will be climbing a large mountain overlooking the various islands. They told me that they plan to pray and sing many praises from the top of that mountain! I am so proud of them all as I know you and more importantly the Lord is for their sacrifices on this trip. Larry C. Nail

Day 11 We had to know this was coming =)

The trip continues to go well with mercy bags being passed out on the islands. Julia wants to adopt a child from each of the islands and her statement "My parents will have to deal with it." haha. Tommy was not feeling well but has made a turn for the better. Please pray for Emily as she had very high fever (104) and it is finally breaking. She asked me to please pray for her right now for restoration of health! They team is going over to Bavuma Island later today and then will come back and sleep on the island where the tents are. They will spend all day Friday on Bavuma and then leave for Jinga Saturday morning. Larry C. Nail

Day 10

I spoke to Greg Lewis and he told me a man on the island came to them with a huge cancerous growth on his testicles. Under banana trees, Katie preformed major surgery with Susan assisting and the growth came right off removing the cancer! At midnight after they arrived on another island, Greg was awakened by his translator as this man was back because he had been moving around a lot, he was bleeding a lot. Katie and Susan cleaned it and re sutured it and the report the day after was that he was fine and had no fever! They went to another part of this small island to some of the poorest people of Kenyan decent. A lady asked them to pray for her daughter who had been very ill. Another lady begged them for a Bible as she wants to read it and was overjoyed to get one! The other lady who had the ill child came back today and told them that she was totally healed. There was also a man who had three children as his wife had left him and he also wanted a Bible. As the team was leaving the village, he was sitting down reading it! Please keep praying for the team. They have worked so hard and are very tired but all very excited for what God has done through them. What a representative of the Lord Jesus Christ and I know you are proud of each of them!! Larry C. Day 8

More great news from the islands. Tommy preached last night and 35 to 45 came forward to accept Christ as their Savior. The Lord is using the team for His Glory. The following day the team found a 6 year old caring for a 2 year old because their parents are alcoholics. The 6 year old gathers what food they can find for each other mainly fruit. The team found a family that would care for the children. Thank God! When they left the island of Kachanga the feeling was now one of joy instead of darkness.

They arrived on Museneni Island which Greg described as the Serengetti -- very flat land with a well but no church. They are having church as Lupe and Emily conducted a bible school for the kids and 35 walked forward to accept Jesus. According to Greg, the kids really wanted what they shared! Greg also mentioned on Lufu that they pulled the well because it was broken and gave them the $150 for a part to have it fixed. Pastor Edward on the island was very glad and very appreciative.

Please continue to pray for the team as they are well but tired. Especially pray for Katie for God to restore her strength and energy. They gave both Katie and Susan a break from clinic today to get some rest. Greg asked to continue to pray for God to move and them (the team) to get out of the way!

Day 7

Everyone is feeling well. I spoke with Emily and she told me that she and Greg went out with mercy bags into the village and some said thanks and others just took the bag (rice, sugar, salt and tea). They were able to lead 2 people to Christ. At the end, when they had run out of mercy bags, three men wanted to know what they were doing. They told them that Jesus sent them to the island and that they were distributing mercy bags but they had no more. Sooooooo...they told the men about Jesus and they wanted Him!! All three prayed to receive Christ as their Savior.

Later when they were talking both Greg and Emily broke down crying as these men wanted what they had and could see Him in their lives. So cool!!

Day 6 Phone Call

Julia called today about 7:30 pm Uganda time and spoke with her Dad and me. She is well and recuperating from a cold (thanks to Katie Buck dispensing a nose spray). She says the food is good and she is eating a lot. She love the cabbage and mixes it with the rice and beans. The boat rides are very smooth.

When she, Lupe and the interpreter passed out the mercy bags they saved two people which is the highlight of the trip so far. She was looking forward to a shower tonight. She laughed as she described how they build the shower with sticks, the shower curtain they brought and a banana leaf floor.

She has seen two monkeys and several dragons (lizards). She also saw an ant hill that was bigger than her. There have not been many mosquitoes. All the insects are very large. The islanders paint the chickens pink so the hawks will not eat them. The hawks are pretty and she saw a turkey and held it. There are lots of goats on both the islands. She has taken lots of pictures and a few videos. Her camera batteries are dead but she thinks she will be able to charge her camera tomorrow.

She says the sun sets very fast about 6 pm and since they go to bed so early each day she has woken just before sunrise. (The are very near the equator so in the summer the days are 12 hours long with sunrise at 7 pm and setting at 7 am). The temperatures are very comfortable, cool in evening and warm but not hot during the day (lows in the 60's highs in the 80's)

She sent love to everyone, esp. Braden and Cath. It was great to hear from her and to know it is all going so well. Please continue to pray for her, the group and those they are serving.~~Dianna Heaberlin

Day 6

The group had a very sweet departure from Lufu. Pastor Edward wants Jason Brown to know how much that he misses him. They traveled very safely and quickly to Kachanga. Please pray here as it seems that there is a very dark feeling here. They took a long hike to a camp site and felt the say feeling so please pray.

They met a man who had a baby who was 2 months old and the mother left after the baby was only 2 weeks old. They prayed over him and the baby and it was so sweet and beautiful to see Lupe holding the baby. She says to tell Gill and the boys that she loves them so much!

Everyone has had some stomach issues but all is well now including the fearless leader, Greg Lewis. Tommy Offer told me that he has learned so much in the month that he has been in Africa and can't wait to share with his Watermark family that he misses so much.

Tonight they are tenting in banana groves as they prepare for what God has for them tomorrow. Keep praying!

Day 5

Today the clinic saw 100's of patients from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM. They worked very very hard. While the patients waited in the clinic, Alyssa told Bible Stories and shared her personal testimony with the waiting patients. Lupe and Julia went and handed out "mercy bags" to many villagers homes and three prayed to receive Christ as their Savior!! Tonight they showed the Jesus movie while the team were able to shower as this is their last night on Lufu as tomorrow they leave for Kachanga, which is another island where they will be for three nights. Day 4

Everyone: Great news from Uganda!!! The team was with a group from Austin Texas last night and held a youth rally and 200, that's right , 200 people accepted Christ as their personal Savior!! They also met a lady who had a blood disease and needed money to go to the hospital and get treated. They were able to give her the needed money and she went straight to the hospital. Susan has found a baby and will be bringing the baby home!! Surprise Steve, just kidding, but she really wanted to do this! Dr. Katie, Susan with assistant Emily did a procedure and helped to remove a hard knot on a person's head. I stop and think about all of this and think this is what Jesus did on the earth...loved and helped people at every level. I am so proud of this group. They have been told often by all the pastors there that they miss Jason terribly and wish he was there with them. They have arrived in Lufu which is their first island and were setting up their tents for the evening!! Larry C. Nail

Day 3

Well, everyone is going great. No sickness and all is great. In the background, I could hear children singing. Tonight is the night that they arrive in Kukombo and then tomorrow they begin their journey to the islands of Lake Victoria. Emily asked the driver (who was the same driver as last year) if he knew Jesus. She had thought that he might be Muslim. His name is Habie and he looked her in the eyes and said "Yes"! She was elated and could not wait for Jason Brown to know as he had been praying for the opportunity to share with him on this visit and since Jason was unable to go, He was quite excited to know this for sure.

Please continue to pray for the group to make a difference in the lives of these people as they seek to meet their physical and spiritual needs on the islands. By the way, temps are in the high 80's and lows in the 60's at night!

Day 2

Everyone: The team made it to Entebbe safely!! They were able to get together with Tommy and Alyssa who are already there and everyone is doing great. Alyssa is feeling better now as well. They will leave tomorrow mid morning for Jinja. Great report...safety, peace and getting some rest today before they journey to the islands! Larry C. Nail

Monday June 27 post 2

Tonight while you are going to bed, please remember the team in your prayers and especially Alyssa, as she is not feeling well. Pray for healing in her body. Isaiah 53:5 "By His stripes, we are healed!"

Monday June 27

Everyone:

Well, they made it off at 4:45 AM this morning and their trip began with favor. At the San Antonio airport everyone was very helpful and kind with all the luggage and passports. They had one extra bag that was to be a charge of $150 and they were having trouble with a credit card. After several attempts, the supervisor said to let it go...free!! Divine Favor!

They arrived for a 6 hour layover and spent time for lunch at Carnegie Deli and then on to Times Square and as I write this email, they are boarding their flight to Brussels and then on to Uganda. They sound so excited, keep them in your prayers as will I!!
