Day 6 Phone Call

Julia called today about 7:30 pm Uganda time and spoke with her Dad and me. She is well and recuperating from a cold (thanks to Katie Buck dispensing a nose spray). She says the food is good and she is eating a lot. She love the cabbage and mixes it with the rice and beans. The boat rides are very smooth.

When she, Lupe and the interpreter passed out the mercy bags they saved two people which is the highlight of the trip so far. She was looking forward to a shower tonight. She laughed as she described how they build the shower with sticks, the shower curtain they brought and a banana leaf floor.

She has seen two monkeys and several dragons (lizards). She also saw an ant hill that was bigger than her. There have not been many mosquitoes. All the insects are very large. The islanders paint the chickens pink so the hawks will not eat them. The hawks are pretty and she saw a turkey and held it. There are lots of goats on both the islands. She has taken lots of pictures and a few videos. Her camera batteries are dead but she thinks she will be able to charge her camera tomorrow.

She says the sun sets very fast about 6 pm and since they go to bed so early each day she has woken just before sunrise. (The are very near the equator so in the summer the days are 12 hours long with sunrise at 7 pm and setting at 7 am). The temperatures are very comfortable, cool in evening and warm but not hot during the day (lows in the 60's highs in the 80's)

She sent love to everyone, esp. Braden and Cath. It was great to hear from her and to know it is all going so well. Please continue to pray for her, the group and those they are serving.~~Dianna Heaberlin
